4.1 Listen to the dialogue and read it in roles.
Travel Plans[2]
A: So what are your plans for this summer?
B: I’ve decided I’m going to go travelling with my friend, Ashley.
A: Really, where are you going?
B: We’re thinking we’d like to explore Northern Europe – Sweden and Norway and we’re hoping to get to Denmark too.
A: Will you fly there?
B: No, we both hate flying. We’re planning to do it all by boat and train.
A: Really? I’d always rather fly. It’s so much quicker and more convenient.
B: Not me, I prefer trains and boats – they’re so much more relaxing. I like sitting back and enjoying the scenery. And, of course, they’re better for the environment.
A: Will you go to Stockholm?
B: I hope so. Do you know it?
A: Yes, I spent a summer there as part of my studies – it’s possibly my favorite city in the world. You absolutely must go there.
B: Well, we’ll make sure we do then! Do you have a travel guide for Stockholm, by any chance?
A: I do – a good one.
B: Would you mind lending it to me for the summer?
A: Sure. I’ll bring it with me the next time we meet for coffee.
B: And what about you? Are you going to get away this summer?
A: I don’t know – work is going to be very busy over the next few months. I might manage a weekend break somewhere – perhaps France.
B: You like France, don’t you?
A: Very much. I really like the way of life there. I sometimes think I’d like to live in France. Anyway, I’d better go now. I’m supposed to be meeting Jane in ten minutes.
B: Okay, bye.
4.2 Reconstruct the dialogue translating Russian expressions into English.
A: Итак, какие твои планы на лето?
B: I’ve decided I’m going to go travelling with my friend, Ashley.
A: Да, куда вы собираетесь?
B: We’re thinking we’d like to explore Northern Europe – Sweden and Norway and we’re hoping to get to Denmark too.
A: Вы полетите туда?
B: No, we both hate flying. We’re planning to do it all by boat and train.
A: Really? I’d always rather fly. It’s so much quicker and more convenient.
B: Not me, я предпочитаю поезда и корабли– they’re so much more relaxing. I like sitting back and enjoying the scenery. And, of course, they’re better for the environment.
A: Вы поедите в Стокгольм?
B: I hope so. Do you know it?
A: Yes, I spent a summer there as part of my studies – it’s possibly my favorite city in the world. You absolutely must go there.
B: Well, we’ll make sure we do then! У тебя есть путеводитель по Стокгольму, by any chance?
A: I do – a good one.
B: Would you mind lending it to me for the summer?
A: Конечно. Я принесу его когда мы встретимся за кофе в следующий раз.
В: And what about you? Are you going to get away this summer?
A: I don’t know – work is going to be very busy over the next few months. I might manage a weekend break somewhere – perhaps France.
