(1) It is the world's largest island and the smallest continent. Its area is about the same as that of the USA (without Alaska). It is washed by the Pacific and Indian oceans.

(2) It is the world's second largest coun­try. It has six time zones, ten provinces and two national languages (English and French). It has more lakes and rivers than any other country. Three quarters of the country are uninhabited: there are still wild and lonely areas where you can see polar bears and wolves.
