Mac Gold (2001) 2009 Chub Harper in ACS database
1985 Joe Stupka PA USA of seed
A very distinctive pyramidal tree that has bright yellow-gold needle color on the new growth as it emerges in the spring. Later in the season the bright gold color turns to green with just a hint of yellow in the needles. This plant is very spectacular in the early spring landscape. 1985 - Joe Stupka of Pulaski, PA discovered and named this tree he discovered growing in a Christmas Tree Farm owned by Dick McConnell, near Edenburg, PA. The entire tree was dug and moved to Pine Glenn Nursery, near Pulaski, PA. This tree still exists at Pine Glenn Nursery (2009). ACS database text.

1989 Charlie Hunter in Clinton IA USA as a WB-mother
/Metzger Broom/
The entire mother tree was donated to the Bickelhaupt Arboretum, Clinton, IA for display in the Heartland Collection of Dwarf and Rare Conifers. The original broom and mother tree was moved into the Heartland Collection in the fall of 1989. In 2002 the original broom had died because of shading and lack of sunlight from the mother tree despite continual pruning of the mother tree. At that time the original tree was also removed. Fortunately the propagation from the original witches' broom lives on and is thriving only a short distance from where the original mother tree was located in the Arboretum. Also reported in ACS Bulletin - 92Wi. ACS text.
