Fashion-tourism in Russia. For the last years in increasing frequency on fashion arena there has been also Russia. Moscow is the new fashion capital of the world. Everybody keep saying that. Moscow Moscow hasnt always been known as a fashion haven, although it has for the most part been fashionable as long as it has been around. During Soviet times there was one large department store on Red Square called GUM, and one Soviet designer to whom all the stars and politicians wives went to Zaitsev.

Since the tall of communism and all those statues, things have changed a bit. Over the past ten years, Moscow has acquired not only a boutique from every major designer around the world, but also its own stable of young, up and coming Russian designers -who have, in some cases, outgrown Moscow and moved on to London, Paris and Milan. Seredin Vasiliev, Nina Donis end Denis Simachov are but a few of the names that have begun to spring up in the pages of the Herald Tribune during the International Fashion Weeks. Moscow well-known is a city of endless talent, inspiration and a long history of the avant-garde.

The Russians have always appreciated the new and innovative, not only in fashion and the arts, but in film, photography and literature. Maybe this would explain the speed at which the fashion community here has grown from one store to hundreds - and why each season the Gucci boutique in Moscow is the second largest seller in the world.

The Russians have an endless appetite for fashion and glamour that is easily seen not only in the pages of Russian Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, but also In the streets, where the newest generation of youth culture sets its own standards. The streets of Moscow have developed a style and a manner distinctly their own, and it continues to change and grow constantly, with new clubs, restaurants and bars opening every few months.

Over the last decade Moscow has re-established itself as one of the great cities of the world. You can find not only the latest in designer clothes but also clubs, restaurants and events that can compete on every level with the best that London, Berlin. New York and Paris have to offer. Moscow has become a 24-hour city where day and night collide and the scene keeps evolving.
