1. Read aloud the pairs of words. Single out the phonemes which are contrasted: hay-high, leap-leek, bid-beard

2. Define the number of syllables in the following words: butterfly, popular, academy

3. Provide these words with necessary stress marks: vice-chancellor, unimportant, good-looking

4. Analyse the sentence considering the following points: To fulfil the first requirement you must have some marks to distinguish yourselves.

a) find strong and weak forms;

b) find cases of assimilation;

5. Mark stresses and draw the scheme of the sentence which sounds complete and definate: I can hardly believe that my son will be admitted to screen the play.
