1. Read aloud the pairs of words. Single out the phonemes which are contrasted: birch-bird , called-cold, pear-poor

2. Define the number of syllables in the following words: bookish, moody, Sunday

3. Provide these words with necessary stress marks: academician, pre-historic, housewife

4. Analyse the sentence considering the following points: Put the pens and pencils in their proper places.

a) find strong and weak forms;

b) find cases of assimilation.

5. Mark stresses and draw the scheme of the sentence which sounds encouraging: Miss Fairfax, ever since I met you I have admired you more than any other girl.
