Text Study
Geology is a natural science, which deals with the planet Earth. More specifically, it is concerned with the Earth’s constitution and structure, with the materials and substances of which it is made up, with the architecture of its surface and interior.
Geologists study agencies and processes which act both on and within the Earth, as well as conditions which operated in the Earth’s history.
Geology includes the study of rocks and their relation to each other, the study of water and its effect upon rocks, the study of the atmosphere and its reaction with minerals.
A geologist not only locates valuable mineral deposits and directs their exploration but he also deals with different engineering projects, such as irrigation systems, tunnel construction, ecological and risk monitoring, etc.
So, geology treats such diverse static and dynamic subjects as the earth’s landscape, the processes which actively shape its surface, weather and climate, mineral resources, rocks and gems, the origin and development of animals and plants, and even the origin of man himself.
Thus, geology is a complex and varied subject. It is also a stimulating, challenging and interesting one.
