УПОТРЕБЛЕНИЕ

1.Для обозначения простых фактов и общеизвестных истин, а также в пословицах и поговорках. В предложениях такого типа не происходит согласование времен.

Water boils at 100 degrees C.

The Earth goes round the Sun.

The Dniper flows into the Black Sea.

The early bird catches the worm.

The teacher said that water freezes at zero degrees.

Coffee beans grow well in Brazil.

2.Для выражения повседневных, повторяющихся действий, привычек, обычаев. В данном случае также возможно использование наречий, обозначающих частотность действия, таких, как:

alwaysWe always see the New Year in at home.

oftenShe often helps her mother in the kitchen.

seldomHe seldom comes late for classes.

sometimesThey only sometimes go to the country at the weekends.

neverHe never quarrels with his friends.

usuallyOurclasses usually begin at 8 o’clock.

hardly ever They hardly ever go to the cinema.

every day/every month/every year, etc.I have a cup of coffee every morning.

 

Эти наречия в предложении ставятся перед смысловым глаголом, но после глагола to be:

 

He is always late for classes. We always come in time for the lessons.

They are never afraid of dogs. I hardly ever make mistakes in my dictations.

3.Для выражения будущего действия, которое произойдет в ближайшем будущем, часто – по расписанию, с глаголами, обозначающими движение (to come, to go, to leave, to arrive, etc). На будущее обязательно должно указывать либо наречие, либо контекст.

 

John leaves for London next week.

The train comes tomorrow at nine.

The studying year begins in September.

My aunt arrives on Sunday morning.

4.Вместо the Future Indefinite (будущего неопределенного) в придаточных предложениях времени и условия, после следующих союзов:

ifIf I answer well, I’ll get an excellent mark.

in case In case she comes, we will leave her a book.

unless I shall not go unless the weather is fine.

when When he comes, I’ll tell him everything.

beforeCall me up before you go to your aunt.

tillYou will stay at home till your parents come back.

untilWill you wait until I come?

При этом, как видно из вышеприведенных примеров, в главном предложении используется необходимое будущее время.

5.Вместо the Present Continuousдля обозначения действия, совершающегося в момент речи с глаголами, которые в Continuous не употребляются (список таких глаголов смотрите в учебнике И.В.Змиевой «Practical English Grammar Handbook», стр.24).

6. Используется в инструкциях, а также в вопросах, требующих в качестве ответа инструкцию или указания.

9. Для передачи в русском языке прошедших действий глаголов to forget, to hearи словосочетанияto be told.
