1.Äëÿ âûðàæåíèÿ äåéñòâèé, ïðîèñõîäèâøèõ â ïðîøëîì (êàê çàâåðøèâøèõñÿ, òàê è íåò) è íèêàê íå ñâÿçàííûõ ñ íàñòîÿùèì ìîìåíòîì. Íà âðåìÿ ñîâåðøåíèÿ äåéñòâèÿ óêàçûâàþò ñëåäóþùèå ñëîâà è ñëîâîñî÷åòàíèÿ (time-indicators):

 

yesterdayHe left yesterday.

last week / month, etc.We met last week.

a week / month / year agoI read this book a month ago.

the other dayI met your brother the other day.

the day before yesterdayIt was the day before yesterday.

on SundayThey went to the cinema on Sunday.

in 2000Her daughter was born in 2000.

2. Äëÿ îïèñàíèÿ ðÿäà ïîñëåäîâàòåëüíûõ äåéñòâèé â ïðîøëîì (îïèñàíèå ðàçâèòèÿ ñîáûòèé).

 

Mr. West came up to the house, took the key out of his pocket and opened

the door.

 

I got up at 7 o’clock a.m. yesterday, had a cold shower, dressed and made a cup of tea and some sandwiches. I had breakfast, read a paper and went to the office at about 9 a.m.

 

3. Äëÿ îïèñàíèÿ îáû÷íûõ, ïîâòîðÿþùèõñÿ, ðåãóëÿðíûõ äåéñòâèé â ïðîøëîì ñ íàðå÷èÿìè ÷àñòîòíîñòè – always, usually, often, regularly, every day, etc.

 

Mr. Brown always carried an umbrella.

Every afternoon he smoked a thick black cigar after dinner.

Mrs. Jones went to the supermarket every day.

 

4. Äëÿ îïèñàíèÿ äåéñòâèÿ, êîòîðîå äëèëîñü íåêîòîðûé ïåðèîä âðåìåíè â ïðîøëîì, è òåïåðü çàêîí÷èëîñü (ñ ïðåäëîãàìè forè during).

 

He worked at his thesis for 2 years.

Yesterday I walked in the park for an hour.

We met a lot of interesting people during the voyage.

Something unusual happened during the performance.

We lived in the country for the whole summer.
